about
In the first of several 'Provocations' released as part of the forthcoming sophomore effort from Maelstrom and Louisahhh, 'Fan the Flame' boldly captures the spirit of the idea, transforming a track from an insulated studio experience, to re-envisioning the same song after a year of performing it live.
Exploring and exposing themes of toxic desire, or a heart that can't stop hunting, the distorted grating of the original version is now re-contextualized for the rave, underlaid with a massive kick drum and more fraught, haunted energy.
It is our great hope our work can be part of an effort to use club spaces as gateways to liberation, and that these sounds and words will help our audience connect to something that feels real and vital.
Fan the Flame is out everywhere January 19, 2024 on RAAR.
lyrics
The Light on my face
Is a knife to your heart
This is where it falls apart
And the sound of your voice
like a blade to my throat
Sometimes we love what
destroys us the most
Fan the flame
Sweat in my eyes
Say it Again
Name your desire
Be my north
Be my whole compass
Can you stop
My restlessness?
Is my love an olive branch
Am I kinder than the rest
Is my love a sickle soul
Here to mow you down //
Are my loins a welcome mat
Beckoning you closer
Can you read me even now
Because I think I’m lost
Fan the flame
Sweat in my eyes
Say it Again
Name your desire
Be my north
Be my whole compass
Can you stop
My restlessness?
