France-based label RAAR, champions of ‘punk for techno-heads and techno for punks’, is thrilled to present a two-track EP including two different flavored collaborations from La Fraicheur. ‘Lichen’, created with label co-founder LOUISAHHH, and ‘Android Fatigue’ with frequent partner in noise, Leonard de Leonard.
‘You Were Made to Be Relentless’ explores the vast spectrum between melancholy noise-pop and gritty, banging techno, both centering a theme of atrophy. ‘Lichen’, produced using exclusively destroyed guitar sounds and the human voice, explores grief as captured in the moment of heartbreak. The name conjures the image of moss growing on a headstone or on the trunk of a dead tree: something continues on in the face of death or destruction.
‘Android Fatigue’ is a dance-floor focused instrumental track that grinds and chugs on like a broken machine, persevering out of nature and necessity.
The title of the EP speaks to the impossible expectations of late capitalism, which neither nature nor technology can keep up with. Defiantly, these songs are a powerful commentary on falling apart.
