Growing more deeply into RAAR’s punk ethos, the tracks on the label’s fourth release are as much about process as end product. Several days of one-room, one-take live sessions involving guitar feedback, machine cacophony and endless growling and shouting resulted in ‘Hurry’ and ‘Listen’. these song were molded into work that is at once unconventional and club-ready with much effort in preserving the feral qualities of the original material.
Listen : The sound of a swiftly approaching storm, or a furious prayer. A certain violence tempered by honesty, building and breaking, ebbing and flowing but roaring forward, unstoppable. Remix from Diagonal Record’s ‘Not Waving’ further affirms the Rock’n Roll roots of the track with brash, seething, crunchy acid-punk.
Listen is not a request, but a demand.
Hurry : Sub-bass, sub-liminal, sub-versive, sub- conscious, (decidely un-) submissive, Hurry is equal parts urgency and restraint. The sonic equivalent of holding hard to the reins of a bolting horse, or being held underwater by a wave. UK producer Lurka on remix duty with unexpected and wonder-full results : the rare combination of both beautiful and useful.
